What a GST invoice must show: a simple checklist
GST बिल में क्या-क्या होना चाहिए
A GST tax invoice has to show certain details by law. Missing details can lead to your buyer losing input tax credit, or to questions from the tax department. Here is a simple checklist.
Seller and buyer
- Your name, address and GSTIN.
- Buyer's name and address. If the buyer is GST registered, their GSTIN too.
- Address of delivery, if it is different from the buyer's address.
Invoice number and date
- A serial number of up to 16 characters, unique for the financial year. It can use letters, numbers, "-" and "/".
- Numbers should run in order without gaps. EAMBAS keeps them in order for you, by bill date.
Goods or services
- Description, quantity and unit.
- HSN code for goods or SAC code for services. Businesses with turnover up to ₹5 crore show at least 4 digits; above that, 6 digits.
- Total value, discount, and taxable value.
Tax
- GST rate and amount, split as CGST + SGST for a sale within your state, or IGST for a sale to another state.
- Cess, if your item has it.
- Place of supply with the state name, for sales to another state.
- Whether tax is payable on reverse charge.
Signature
Your signature or digital signature, or that of an authorised person.
How EAMBAS helps
When you pick a party and items, EAMBAS fills in GSTIN, HSN code, place of supply and the CGST/SGST or IGST split automatically, and adds amount in words and your bank details. Choose from three invoice formats under Features → GST Invoice Format.
